Diagnostic Messages

dmesg

May be used on most Unix-like operating systems to query th message buffer of the kernel. The output includes messages produced by the device drivers.

Use

dmesg | tail show latest messages

Useful Flags

-D disable printing messages to console
-E enable printing messages to console
-l <level> restrict output to defined level
-w print all and wait for new messages
-W wait for and print only new messages
-x decode facility and level to readable string

Time

-d show time delta between printed messages
-e show local time and time delta in readable format
-t don't show any timestamp with messages
-T show human-readable timestamp (may be inaccurate!)
